I combined these shields with a 3-step method for weaning off shields. The others were large for me, and fortunately these shields fit perfectly. With patience, persistence, and staying calm after just over 2 weeks my baby is latching without shields. These were a great stepping stone to weaning her off regular shields!

Weaning from nipple shield

I've been nursing my baby with a traditional nipple shield since she was born because of a tongue and lip tie. After it was corrected, she still would not latch on my breast because she had gotten so used to the shield. I found this sucklethrough shield and gave it a shot because at the very least I'd get the benefits of my baby's saliva, even if we were using the shield long term. Well, after only 5 days my baby is not even needing these anymore and is totally fine taking my breast! The sucklethrough shield material is thinner than my traditional shield, so it wasn't too difficult to to go from this shield to skin. Purchasing this shield has saved my breastfeeding journey by providing the perfect stepping stone between my traditional nipple shield and bare breast. Sooo happy I took a chance on it!

I’ve been using LacTecks nipple shield for just over 24 hours & for 8-9 feedings & let me just say— WE LOVE IT. I’ve noticed even in 24 hours a boost in my supply (via pumping with LacTeck BabyMotion Flanges & pump schedule hasn’t changed one bit) & I greatly attribute this to the fact that my nipple is exposed to baby’s saliva & actual suck! I have very elastic nipples & this shield has been AMAZING. My baby gets the best feed I feel he’s ever gotten. I will say, due to my elastic nipples my nipple does stretch out through the nipple shield, but seems to be a total win for us! I’ve tried every well known shield on the market (Medela, lansinoh, nuby, haakaa) & this has been the most comfortable, easy & productive shield for us even in just about 32 hours of use! I LOVE the concept & design.

I've been using the shield and it does pull my nipple out. At first my son struggled since it something new, definitely took him a minute to breastfeed. After that it was like I had nothing on, felt so natural. Other nipple shield are uncomfortable to me and this is super comfortable. My son only struggled that one time and after that was like I had no shield on.

What size is the Suckle Through Nipple Shield?

Currently we only have S size available, which is good for nipple size 15mm-20mm.

Would the Suckle Through Nipple Shield hurt?

No. The SuckleThrough Nipple Shield is made of soft silicone that is very comfortable to use even when your nipple extends outside the opening of the shield.

Is my nipple supposed to extend through the Suckle Through Nipple Shield?

Yes. That's the purpose of the Suckle Through Nipple Shield, which facilitates the transition to direct breastfeeding while still providing protection on the base of mother's nipple. Free milk flow is important for saliva-breastmilk communication and weaning off traditional nipple shields. However, if you have inverted nipples then maybe your nipple doesn't extend through the hole on it. But you should still be able to use it to help with direct breastfeeding as the nipple portion of the shield still mimics a mother's nipple.

Can I use the Suckle Through Nipple Shield if I have inverted nipples?

We don't recommend it for moms with inverted nipples because it doesn't have enough structure to mimic mother's nipple to stimulate baby's nursing. It is designed for moms with elastic nipples.
